Dexter Gordon – Blue Bossa
This great Jazz standard was originally written by Kenny Dorham but Dexter Gordon does a really great job with it. We have yet to post any straight ahead Jazz on Your Daily Song Fix so I hope you like it!

Some UK R&B for you…
Soulive is a very interesting band for a few reasons. One is that their organ player covers the bass lines, and the bass lines are very good. Another is that they play anything from straight up funk jazz to stuff you could imagine hearing on a normal radio station (although for some reason they don’t get played on normal radio stations). Here is one of the latter type’s of songs.
Mission Of Burma was a post-punk band formed in 1979. They had a decent run until they had to stop playing because of guitarist and singer Roger Miller’s tinnitus. Having released some great music, these guys are unfortunately very forgotten. Also, regardless of how much you like or dislike Mission Of Burma, Not A Photograph is one of the best music documentaries I have ever seen. They recently reunited to play some shows and we may be able to catch them again soon.
Interesting quote taken directly from The Decemberists’ website:
“There’s an odd bond between the music of the British folk revival and classic metal,” says The Decemberists frontman Colin Meloy. “A natural connection between, like, Fairport Convention and Black Sabbath—of course, Sandy Denny from Fairport even sang with Led Zeppelin on ‘The Battle of Evermore.’ I think there’s a shared sense of narrative and ambience, of moving beyond the first person in your writing. And I thought it would be interesting to mess around with that.”
This Sesame Street song is about how a child’s sense of wonder about the world can influence the way an adult sees the world. Great song and great performance by Richie Havens.
Pressure Chief is one of my all time favorite albums. I’m not even sure how much people seek out this album today. Searching “Pressure Chief” with Google’s keyword tool shows surprisingly low results (try comparing the results to other albums released in 2004 if you want proof). While this song doesn’t have my favorite lyrics on the album, I think it has such a great melody.
I’m going to see Phish in Camden today for the first time in years. I was hanging with some musicians today that thought Phish couldn’t play, so I figure I would post Phish ripping through a Charlie Parker tune.
