The Lovin’ Spoonful – Did You Ever Have To Make Up Your Mind
The Lovin’ Spoonful is probably best known for their hit “Do You Believe In Magic.” I don’t love the band but I really like this folky song.

Holding is a great John Hartford song off his epic album Aereo-Plain.
We have been posting a lot of Brazilian music lately but everyone is loving it so why stop? I originally heard this song on a Brazilian music compilation album put out by David Byrne as his “musical love letter to Brazil.” Actually, that compilation, Beleza Tropical Brazil Classics 1, is without question one of my top ten favorite albums. “Umbabarauma” is the first song on that compilation.
Steve Winwood is has been in some great band including Spencer Davis Group (I posted the song “Keep On Running” a few weeks ago) and Traffic. This song was released in 2008 on his album Nine Lives.
I can’t get enough of the Gipsy Kings right now. This song has such a great melody and amazing rhythmic stuff going on. I would love to hear about your favorite Gipsy Kings song via comments on this blog post. The Gipsy Kings were born in France but their parents were gitanos, or Spanish Romanies. Their music is heavily influenced by Flamenco and the style is called Rumba Catalana.
CéU is a Brazilian musician from São Paulo whose music is influenced by a diverse set of genres including samba, valsa, choro, soul, rhythm and blues, hip hop, afrobeat and electrojazz music. This particular song is a samba off of her album Vagarosa. The entire album is very diverse so even if you don’t love this samba, you’ll probably find something you really like on the album.
Here is a rarely played song by Joni Mitchell. Pretty cool theme for a love song – “I could drink a case of you, and still be on my feet…”
Headin’ out to the country for the weekend. Here is a sweet song written by Bob Dylan and Old Crow Medicine Show. They didn’t write the song together but Old Crow wrote the song based on an unfinished version by Bob Dylan and performed it at Bob Dylan’s 60th birthday in 2001. Apparently Bob Dylan wrote the chorus which was then altered a little bit by Old Crow, and Old Crow wrote the verses.
