( @guillemots ) I’m really diggin the album From The Cliffs by Guillemots right now. I have been on a bit of an indie rock craze since Pitchfork released their list of the top 500 songs of the 2000s which translates to their list of “the top 500 indie, pop, and rap songs of the 2000s.” “Trains To Brazil” got some good recognition by iTunes in 2006 as it was given out as “Single of the Week.”

His solo albums have generated ten Top 10 singles in the U.K. and The Independent has stated that “most pop stars have to be dead before they reach the iconic status that he has reached in his lifetime.” After participating in multiple bands in the 1970s and 1980s, he started a solo career in 1988. “First of the Gang to Die” was released in 2004 as one of four of his Top 10 hits in the U.K. for that year alone, a record breaking score.

Oakland guitar ace Eugene Blacknell released multiple singles that ranged in style from raw r’n'b to power house funk. His musical career stretched from the early 1960s to the end of the 1980s and during that time he established himself as an East Bay original, an entrepreneur, an activist, and in addition he was a true family man. With so many accomplishments it’s an irony of fate that he died before releasing an album despite having recorded enough material for several.

Jamie Lidell is a really funky guy whose music traverses across multiple genres. His song “Multiply” did pretty well and was used on the hit television show Grey’s Anatomy. “Game For Fools” has a really nice old school soul vibe.

I talked to way too many people this weekend that haven’t heard of MGMT. They have been Spin.com’s “Artist of the Day”, Rolling Stone’s top 10 “Artist to Watch”, and named as Last.fm’s most played artist of 2008. This one’s for everyone who has been hiding under a rock for the past two years.
