@kinch Here’s a cool indie pop band from Phoenix, Arizona. Best of all is you can get their album for free here (donations are encouraged). Their name ‘Kinch’ is a reference to the character Stephen Dedalus in the novel Ulysses by James Joyce. Enjoy and grab the free album!

Matisyahu – One Day

I don’t think this tune is really underplayed but it’s a good one and I got a request for it. I think most people know who Matisyahu but then again, I don’t hear him often on the radio. He is an American Hasidic Jewish reggae musician. “One Day” is off of Matisyahu’s album Light which was released this past August.

“Big Thing” is off of Deep Banana Blackout’s 2001 album Feeling The Peel. I love the chorus melody and the solo in this song.

This is Your Daily Song Fix’s 100th song! I hope everyone has been enjoying the music we have been posting. We have been getting great feedback from our listeners.

I would like to announce some improvements coming soon:

  1. Radio: We will be posting a radio-style playlist so that you can simply hit play and listen to all the tunes we have posted.
  2. Mixes: Want a good bedtime mix? How about workout mix? YDSF will be posting eclectic mixes for you to check out as well as links to download them to your computer and iPod.
  3. Download Links: We will be posting download links with all songs available from Amazon or iTunes.
  4. One Song Per Day: YDSF has been a little backed up but we promise to catch up and start posting one song per day. Sometimes the hold up is due to technical difficulties beyond our control
  5. More rare songs: YDSF relies heavily on Grooveshark for posting music. Lately Grooveshark has made some great technological improvements that allow us to upload our extremely unheard of music that we can’t find on their site. This means better and more unknown music for you

In the spirit of providing more unknown music, here is an African tune you are sure to like.

“Fake Palindromes” is off Andrew Bird’s 2005 album The Mysterious Production of Eggs. The album displays Bird’s continued progression towards an eclectic indie–folk sound, and layered samples of sound constructed using multi-track recorders and loop pedals. He is musically proficient at the violin, whistling, guitar, mandolin, and glockenspiel.

Jamrioquai – Planet Home

Posted in Forgotten Music on September 18th, 2009 by The Music Man – Be the first to comment

“Planet Home” is off of Jamiroquai’s super funky 1999 album Synkronized. Fun fact – Jamiroquai is not the lead singer’s stage name, it is the name of the band that originally included Jay Kay (vocals), Toby Smith (keys), Stuart Zender (bass), Nick Van Gelder (drums), and Wallis Buchanan (didgeridoo). The name Jamiroquai is a portmanteau of “jam” from Jam session and “iroquai” from the Iroquois Indians.

Elvis Costello – Welcome To The Working Week

Elvis Costello is one of my favorite artists and My Aim Is True is one of my favorite albums of all time. If you like this style of music, I can guarantee you will love the album. I think this song is worth posting the lyrics.

Now that your picture’s in the paper being rhythmically admired
and you can have anyone that you have ever desired,
all you gotta tell me now is why, why, why, why.

Welcome to the workin’ week.
Oh I know it don’t thrill you, I hope it don’t kill you.
Welcome to the workin’ week.
You gotta do it till you’re through it so you better get to it.

All of your family had to kill to survive,
and they’re still waitin’ for their big day to arrive.
But if they knew how I felt they’d bury me alive.

Welcome to the workin’ week.
Oh I know it don’t thrill you, I hope it don’t kill you.
Welcome to the workin’ week.
You gotta do it till you’re through it so you better get to it.

I hear you sayin’, “Hey, the city’s alright,
when you only read about it in books.
Spend all your money gettin’ so convinced
that you never even bother to look.
Sometimes I wonder if we’re livin’ in the same land,
Why d’you wanna be my friend when I feel like a juggler
running out of hands?

Welcome to the workin’ week, oh, welcome to the working week.

The Fratellis – Everybody Knows You Cried Last Night

Posted in Underplayed Music, Unknown Songs on September 16th, 2009 by The Music Man – Be the first to comment

“Everybody Knows You Cried Last Night” is an upbeat tune off of The Fratellis’ 2006 album Costello Music. It did very well in the U.K. but doesn’t seem to be a well known album in the U.S. Enjoy this great unknown song and grab the album if you like it.
