Awesome Talking Heads song…have a great weekend!
“It Hurts Me Too” is a great song covered by many great musicians. I know I have heard a Soul version of this song backed by female vocal harmonies but I can’t seem to find it on the internet. Does anyone know the version I am talking about? An artist name would be much appreciated. Happy Thanksgiving!
Everything That Happens Will Happen Today, released on August 18,2008, was a collaboration between two amazing artists – David Byrne and Brian Eno. Leo Abrahams helped produce the album and also co-wrote “Strange Overtones.” This electronic gospel album was born after a dinner conversation where Brian Eno told David Byrne that he had accumulated a lot of music that he had never formed into songs.
Chicago is one of the longest running and most successful U.S. pop/rock and roll groups yet many people only know them for their most famous hit “25 or 6 to 4.” Out of 21 studio albums and 9 live albums, “Movin’ In” remains one of my favorite underplayed Chicago songs. It was written by Trombonist James Pankow and has a great melody, powerful horn lines, soulful vocals, and great horn solos.
Bach was a classical composer associated with the Baroque era which started around 1600 and ended around 1750 as it transitioned to the Classical era. This is the first classical song on Your Daily Song Fix. Let me know what you think!
Poets Of Rhythm were formed by two brothers in the 1990’s and recognized as one of the first “retro-soul” groups – contemporary artists who based their sound around classic R&B styles of the ’60s and ’70s. Since their formation, other great bands such as Breakestra and The Bamboos have joined their musical circle to produce this style of music. However, all three groups are unique and funky in their own way.
Vusi Mahlasela, an African folk singer/songwriter, has performed on Warren Haynes’ Live at Bonnaroo release during the song “Soulshine”, and the Dave Matthews Band song, “Everyday”, from the album Everyday. I think the language of this song is Sesotho which is one of the 11 official languages of South Africa. I think the title translates to “How will it be?” because Vusi says that right before he starts singing but the Sesotho to English translator only knew the word “na.”
Ever wonder what the Beatles would sound like if they joined forces with Frank Zappa? …and spoke Portuguese? Check out this song by Os Mutantes from São Paulo, Brazil. They were part of the Tropicália movement in Brazil which arose in the late 1960’s.
