“Up the Hill Backwards” was released on David Bowie’s album, “Scary Monsters,” in 1980 and as a single in March of 1981. “Up The Hill Backwards” reached #32 on the UK Singles Chart but I’m not sure how well it did in the USA. I really like the song and I think it’s time to bring it back via Your Daily Song Fix.
Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan was a musician from Pakistan, mainly known for singing Qawwali, a form of Sufi devotional music popular in the Muslim countries of South Asia. Although I could not find a direct translation for it, “My Comfort Remains” is one such example of Qawwali music. Despite some of the eerie harmonies in this music, Qawwali is very spiritual in music and can be classified by which Sufi religious figure is praised throughout the song. Shout out to Michal for introducing me to this style of music!
Check out this unknown singer/songwriter from Europe. Mark Kelly has a unique sound and has something going on that would definitely go over well in the USA. What do you think?
