Giant Panda Guerilla Dub Squad ( @giantpandadub ) play an eclectic blend of roots reggae, dub, and afrobeat. Back in May I posted “Seasons Change” and I have to bring another one of their songs to my audience. I hope you enjoy “Missing You More”, an unknown song to most of the world but a gem in my music library.
Nomo is an Afrobeat band from Ann Arbor, Michigan. They are not to be confused with the Nomo that had a minor hit in 1985, “Red Lipstick”, which is crap.
Elikeh is a collective of like-minded roots musicians performing their own brand of African Roots music. The material is a combination of traditional rhythms from Togo and 70’s Afrofunk. They seem to be heavily influenced by the music of Fela Kuti which makes sense because Elikeh’s drummer toured with Femi Kuti, Fela’s son, for three years.
On Saturday, August 22nd, Elikeh will be hosting an Afrofunk Dance Party in DC. If you are in the Baltimore/DC/NOVA area, this show is pretty much mandatory. While “Selma To Soweto” seems like a relatively chill song, Afrobeat music is always very fun to see live and everyone will be dancing their asses off. If you come out to the show, be sure to say hello. Show details below.
