Ron Carter – Saguaro

Ron Carter is an incredible Jazz bassist. I have been wanting to own his album Piccolo for a long time but these days I mainly purchase records so the selection is somewhat limited and the purchases are relatively sporadic. I finally grabbed Piccolo from the Amazon mp3 store last week and just as I remembered, the album is amazing. “Saguaro” is my favorite tune off the album. Set aside 18 minutes of your time, lie in bed with the lights off, and enjoy the one of the best Jazz recordings available.

Jamie Lidell is a really funky guy whose music traverses across multiple genres. His song “Multiply” did pretty well and was used on the hit television show Grey’s Anatomy. “Game For Fools” has a really nice old school soul vibe.

Matthew Ward is a singer-songwriter from Portland, Oregon. His music is mostly mellow with folk and country influences. “Chinese Translation” is the sixth song off his 2006 album, Post-War. The album has some cool songs if you are into the mellow folk sound. Besides great songs, great appearances are made by Jim James, Neko Case, and Mike Mogis.

Badly Drawn Boy – Silent Sigh

I guess this one is more “your daily artist fix.” I say this because I haven’t come across a Badly Drawn Boy song I absolutely love but they are all pretty damn good and it’s really good music to listen to. So far I have checked out the albums About A Boy, One Plus One Is One, and The Hour of Bewilderbeast with About A Boy being my favorite.
