Dynamic Tints & Pieces of Peace-Be My Lady

If a man writes this song for you and you don’t fall in love with him your heart is made of stone. The Chicago-based group Pieces of Peace is also, almost certainly, the only band to ever be created in Chicago and disband in Singapore.

"Why would you deny me?"

If you’ve made it to Singapore as a band you’ve probably done something right, or have you?

I love my Dap Kings and my Amy Winehouse but sometimes there is nothing like the real deal.  This is song is 1960s soul that melts your heart and reminds you that you have to treat your lady right.

Dyke and the Blazers – Let a Woman Be a Woman

Posted in Forgotten Music, Underplayed Music, Unknown Songs on April 21st, 2010 by Nick – Be the first to comment

This song first appeared in 1969 and did not receive much critical acclaim. Recently, however, the English rock band, The Heavy, have gained success sampling the horn lines from this tune with their song “How You Like Me Now?” That song appeared most recently in a KIA commercial that aired during the Superbowl. The Heavy song is great, but it is always nice to see where the original comes from. I dare you not to dance to this one.

Earth, Wind & Fire“When you feel down and out, sing a song!”  It’s hard to not do just that listening to this up-beat, happy-go-lucky funk melody.  Earth, Wind & Fire is the ultimate funk-pop band.  Their hit “Sing a Song” reached #5 on the U.S. Billboard Charts in 1976 and it’s regarded as one of the band’s most popular songs.  Founded in 1969 by Maurice White, EWF has sold over 90 million albums and enjoy continued success, performing songs to this day.

Lakeside – Fantastic Voyage

Happy Friday! It’s time to get pumped up for a great weekend. We are trying something new this week. Your Daily Song Fix will be bringing you three links that we find amazing or hilarious. We live and breathe the internet and technology so be sure to check out these links to hear about things that no one else delivers. Of course we will still be posting a song, so you’ll get your fix.

1. Please Rob Me is a hilarious but scary website that crawls Twitter to figure out when people tweet out that they won’t be home (giving you the optimal chance to rob them). The intentions are good – to raise awareness about what information you should not be sharing with the public.

2. Are you interested in starting your own business? Are you seeking information on a certain topic? Mixergy.com is where you want to be. In Andrew Warner’s words – “Imagine having a mix of experienced mentors teaching you their expertise. That’s my mission with Mixergy.com.” Andrew asks the best interview questions I have seen …it’s almost like he is reading your mind.

3. A funny Dave Chappelle and Martin Lawrence clip that most people haven’t seen:

And finally, enjoy your daily song fix!

Red Hot Chili Peppers – If You Want Me To Stay

Posted in Forgotten Music, Underplayed Music, Unknown Songs on December 23rd, 2009 by The Music Man – Be the first to comment

Here is some early punk funk from my man Taylor. This cover of Sly and the Family Stone’s “If You Want Me To Stay” is from the album Freaky Styley, one of two albums with the true RHCP lineup before Hillel Slovak died of a drug overdose in 1988 (the other is The Uplift Mofo Party Plan). Freaky Styley was produced by George Clinton, principal architect of P-Funk, and features great jazz musicians Fred Wesley and Maceo Parker on horns. Flea (the bass player from RHCP) touted his jazz musician skills which most people probably never recognize by playing trumpet on this album.

Lee Fields – Honey Dove

Sorry Daily Song Fix has been missing in action this week. I develop websites, blogs, and web applications for a living and these past couple weeks have been really busy. Taylor, a Daily Song Fix reader, sent me a great suggestion – Honey Dove by Lee Fields. I had not heard of Lee Fields before Taylor mentioned him but according to Taylor, “Honey Dove” is a “great soulful song by the classic funk artist Lee Fields. Currently performing with The Expressions on the Truth and Soul label and putting out solid funk and soul!” I definitely agree that this is some solid funk and soul. I will be paying more attention to Lee Fields in the future. Thanks Taylor!

Poets Of Rhythm – Guiding Resolution

Poets Of Rhythm were formed by two brothers in the 1990’s and recognized as one of the first “retro-soul” groups – contemporary artists who based their sound around classic R&B styles of the ’60s and ’70s. Since their formation, other great bands such as Breakestra and The Bamboos have joined their musical circle to produce this style of music. However, all three groups are unique and funky in their own way.
