Lakeside – Fantastic Voyage

Posted in Forgotten Music, Link Dump, Unknown Songs on February 19th, 2010 by The Music Man – Be the first to comment

Happy Friday! It’s time to get pumped up for a great weekend. We are trying something new this week. Your Daily Song Fix will be bringing you three links that we find amazing or hilarious. We live and breathe the internet and technology so be sure to check out these links to hear about things that no one else delivers. Of course we will still be posting a song, so you’ll get your fix.

1. Please Rob Me is a hilarious but scary website that crawls Twitter to figure out when people tweet out that they won’t be home (giving you the optimal chance to rob them). The intentions are good – to raise awareness about what information you should not be sharing with the public.

2. Are you interested in starting your own business? Are you seeking information on a certain topic? Mixergy.com is where you want to be. In Andrew Warner’s words – “Imagine having a mix of experienced mentors teaching you their expertise. That’s my mission with Mixergy.com.” Andrew asks the best interview questions I have seen …it’s almost like he is reading your mind.

3. A funny Dave Chappelle and Martin Lawrence clip that most people haven’t seen:

And finally, enjoy your daily song fix!

Poets Of Rhythm – Guiding Resolution

Posted in Underplayed Music, Unknown Songs on November 20th, 2009 by The Music Man – Be the first to comment

Poets Of Rhythm were formed by two brothers in the 1990’s and recognized as one of the first “retro-soul” groups – contemporary artists who based their sound around classic R&B styles of the ’60s and ’70s. Since their formation, other great bands such as Breakestra and The Bamboos have joined their musical circle to produce this style of music. However, all three groups are unique and funky in their own way.

Ozomatli – Cut Chemist Suite

“Cut Chemist Suite” is off of Ozomatli’s first album released in 1998. I feel a little out of the hip-hop loop for not hearing of these guys before considering MC Chali 2na and turntablist Cut Chemist were part of the group before focusing their efforts on Jurassic 5.

Arthur Conley – Sweet Soul Music

It’s always nice to be informed about awesome Soul artists that I haven’t heard before. Arthur Conley may have been really popular in 1967 for his hit song “Sweet Soul Music,” but I had not heard of him until today. I look forward to discovering more of his work.

Brownout – Laredo 77

From Brownout’s MySpace page:

If ever a band could boast having a complex genealogical tree, that band is Brownout. The eight-piece, Latin funk ensemble based in Austin, Texas, is both offspring and germinating seed to Grammy-nominated Grupo Fantasma. The latter in turn traces its roots to when Austin based Blue Noise Band and The Blimp, from booming border town of Laredo, Texas, converged in its conception.

Brownout may well be Grupo Fantasma’s psychedelic Latin funk little brother, an offshoot of the collective that regularly backs Prince, its latest incarnation, or even its alter ego. What they are not is the sprawling conjunto’s side project. Brownout has taken Grupo Fantasma’s funk roots and blown them up. In the process they’ve taken on a life and developed a unique sound all their own. Aguilas and Cobras, the group’s new album on Six Degrees Records (9/15/09), stands as testament to their one of a kind evolution…

Bonerama – Blackout in New York City

Posted in Underplayed Music, Unknown Songs on September 9th, 2009 by The Music Man – Be the first to comment

( @Bonerama ) Bonerama is a band made up of four trombone players accompanied by a sousaphone, guitarist, and a drummer. A couple of the trombonists came from Harry Connick Jr.’s big band. They play some great New Orleans style music and bear a striking resemblance to Rebirth Brass Band who is also from New Orleans. These guys cover a bunch of really awesome songs so I strongly recommend getting as much of their music as possible.

Stanton Moore – Common Ground

( @Stanton_Moore ) All Kooked Out is my favorite Stanton Moore album. Check out this really funky tune and check out the entire album if you like this one.

Nomo – Last Beat

Posted in Underplayed Music, Unknown Songs on August 21st, 2009 by The Music Man – Be the first to comment

Nomo is an Afrobeat band from Ann Arbor, Michigan. They are not to be confused with the Nomo that had a minor hit in 1985, “Red Lipstick”, which is crap.
