Imagine you’re a nihilist. Now imagine you’re blasting down a desert highway in a convertible with this song as your non-diegetic soundtrack. Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds have had an long, illustrious career, and “Albert Goes West,” from their great 2008 album Dig!!! Lazarus, Dig!!! captures them at their most fist-pumpingly energetic. Just don’t ask them to take responsibility for anything.
I really like the lyrics in this song so I am posting them below the music widget. It also has a great melody and harmonies.
Lyrics
Everyone is trying to get to the bar.
The name of the bar, the bar is called Heaven.
The band in Heaven they play my favorite song.
They play it one more time, they play it all night long.
Oh heaven, heaven is a place, a place where nothing, nothing ever happens.
Heaven is a place, a place where nothing, nothing ever happens.
There is a party, everyone is there.
Everyone will leave at exactly the same time.
When this partys over it will start again.
It will not be any different, it will be exactly the same.
Heaven is a place, a place where nothing, nothing ever happens.
Heaven is a place, a place where nothing, nothing ever happens.
When this kiss is over it will start again.
It will not be any different, it will be exactly
the same.
It’s hard to imagine that nothing at all
could be so exciting, could be this much fun.
Oh, heaven, heaven is a place, a place where nothing, nothing ever happens.
Oh, heaven, heaven is a place, a place where nothing, nothing ever happens.
Mission Of Burma was a post-punk band formed in 1979. They had a decent run until they had to stop playing because of guitarist and singer Roger Miller’s tinnitus. Having released some great music, these guys are unfortunately very forgotten. Also, regardless of how much you like or dislike Mission Of Burma, Not A Photograph is one of the best music documentaries I have ever seen. They recently reunited to play some shows and we may be able to catch them again soon.
