Otis Redding – Try A Little Tenderness

Posted in Forgotten Music, Underplayed Music on December 10th, 2009 by The Music Man – Be the first to comment

“Try a Little Tenderness” is a love song written by “Irving King” and Harry M. Woods, and recorded initially on December 8, 1932 by the Ray Noble Orchestra (with vocals by Val Rosing). Otis Redding’s live version from the amazing album Live in London & Paris starts off with a great soulful melody and then transitions into an upbeat groove backed by a fearless horn section. I put this entire album in the Daily Song Fix Store (see the tab – Listen and Shop!) because it really is an amazing album. Props to Joe @ Chowabunga for the song suggestion.
Update: The Live in Paris version stopped working so I embedded a different one below, still great!

Soulive (feat. Dave Matthews) – Joyful Girl

Soulive is a really funky upbeat band and I will be posting lots of their music on this blog. This song is a bit soft and jazzy but very tasteful. Soulive teams up with Dave Matthews to cover the Ani Difranco song “Joyful Girl.” Eric Krasno takes a really awesome solo midway through the song to show some of that Soulive instrumental virtuosity. Enjoy!

Jackson 5 – Ben

I’ve gotten two requests for this song. “Ben” made Michael Jackson the third-youngest solo artist, at age fourteen, to score a number-one hit single. It was written by Don Black and Walter Scharf and recorded by Michael Jackson for the Motown label in 1972.

Your Daily Song Fix has some big news today. In the past week or so you may have noticed some slow loading and sometimes our site may not have loaded at all. Tonight we are migrating our website to a new server and expect very high performance gains. I want to apologize for any previous inconvenience and any slowness you experience today. Bear with us for just one more day as we make this important change.

On the music front, we have some more Portuguese music coming at you. Sara Tavares (born 1978) is a Portuguese singer, composer and guitarist of Cape Verdean descent. She’s known (but still relatively unknown) for singing the European-Portuguese version of “God Help the Outcasts” for the Disney movie “The Hunchback of Notre Dame.” Special thanks to Emmanuel Olaleye for the song recommendation.

Robert Cray is a great Blues musician and five-time Grammy award winner. Here is one of his more main stream sounding tunes but you can definitely hear the Blues influence.
